Clicking sound

I've been hearing this single "click" sound coming from the rear of my car when I brake hard. It seems to happen when I brake hard, and then come off the brakes just as the car comes to a stop. Also, I hear it on both the left and the right side. Does anyone have any ideas what might be making this sound?

I've ruled-out the brakes because I recently had the rear brake hardware replaced. I doubt it's my shocks (Tokiko HP's). Could it be the bushings or something else suspension related?

You shouldn't necessarily rule out the brakes because they were recently replaced; recent work is often the reason for funny noises and such. Could be missing shims and the pads are shifting around, could be a loose bolt on the caliper, or it could be something totally unrelated.

Thanks dbman96, but the only reason that I feel I CAN rule out the brakes is because I originally thought they were the brakes. Since then, I've had the hardware set replaced and the rear brakes have been checked to see if anything is loose (bolts, etc.). The shims are actually tighter now than a stock set, so it's definately not the pads shifting.

I'm lost. . . I don't even know what parts are "capable" of making this sound.

To repeat though, it's just a single click (not multiple clicks) when the suspension (it seems) is suddenly loaded and then unloaded quickly, like by hard braking.

This happened to me once with cheap aftermarket rotors that had holes bigger than the wheel studs needed.

Reverse -> Brake -> CLICK
Forward -> Brake -> CLICK
Subsequent braking in the same direction did not result in clicks.

What was happening was that rotor would "set" in one direction or the other.

I have stock rear rotors and stock rear pads (new pads, but stock).

What Holden says is saying sounds like my problem. . . I'll go experiment to see if I can make it repeat.

Oh. . .actually there is one difference to Holden's situation. The "click" sound only happens when I brake hard. . . if I brake "easy," then it doesn't happen.

Again, I think it has something to do with the load put on the suspension system somewhere.

Those rotors where the crappy no-name brand I bought in my younger days for a Toyota Camry. They were real garbage.
